Sarah McLachlan
Fumbling Toward Ecstasy (1994) D
"Possession" sucks the least, because threatening to rape and murder her beloved is probably healthy for her -- it's not like she's going to do it. "Plenty" sucks the second-least, because it has a beat. "Hold On" sucks a lot, because no one over 14 should use the line "Am I in heaven here or am I in hell". "Ice Cream" doesn't suck the most, even though she delivers the line "Your love is better than ice cream" without as much as a wink, because it proves she's capable of taking pleasure in something -- besides her voice, I mean. But it still sucks, because she rhymes "tried" with both "fight" and "cry", which wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't enunciating. "Fear" possibly sucks the most because she believes the Celine Dion mixed metaphor (singing high = plumbing the depths of one's soul) and then doesn't even bother to project. Or maybe "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" sucks the most, because she uses "I won't fear love" as a mantra, though it's unlikely she's woken at night screaming "Blessed Aphrodite! Please don't hurt me!" But I can't say for sure what sucks the most, because then I'd have to listen to to the songs all the way through.
